Half of the numbers from 1 to 36 are red and the other half are black. The number zero is always green and has a special meaning in the game. It provides the bank advantage of 2.7% in European roulette. In American roulette there is also the double zero (“00”), which reduces the chances of winning for players and increases the bank advantage to 5.26%.

The Course Of A Round Of Roulette

The exclamation “Faites vos jeux!” Means “Make your game!” heralds the beginning of a round and asks the players to place their bets on the tableau. If the croupier is of the opinion that enough bets have been placed, he sets the roulette wheel in motion and throws in the ball against the direction of travel.

At this point, bets can continue to be placed until the croupier closes the table with the exclamation “Rien ne va plus”, meaning “nothing works”. From this point onwards, no further assignments are possible. Now you have to wait and hope until the boiler slows down and the ball comes to a standstill on one of the fields. Ideally, you have bet on that very field and receive a multiple of your stake back. If luck was not on your side in this case, your bets are unfortunately lost and will be cleared from the tableau before the next round begins according to the same principle.

Possible Uses And Chances Of Winning

In roulette, a fundamental distinction is made between inside and outside bets. Inside bets are bets placed directly on numbers. These are riskier, but promise higher profits if you are lucky. Inside Bets

• Single Number (Plein) : Here the chips are placed on a single number. The chance of winning is very low at 2.7% in European roulette, but the payout of 35: 1 is the highest possible in roulette.
• Neighboring Numbers (Cheval) : In this bet, the stake is placed on two numbers that are next to each other on the tableau. To do this, place the chip or chips on the line between the two desired numbers. The chance of winning increases to 5.41% and the payout is 17: 1.
• Four Neighbors (Carré) : With the Carré, the bet is placed on four numbers that are in a rectangle. To do this, the bet is placed on the corner that is in the middle of the four numbers. With the Carré, the chance of winning is 10.81% and the payout drops to 8: 1.

Outside Bets

As already described under the point of possible uses, outside bets are based on certain characteristics. One of the most popular outside bets is the “simple chance”. Here a bet is made on one of two possible outcomes. This promises high chances of winning, but the payout rate is only 1: 1. Without the zero, the probability of winning the simple chance would be exactly 50%. The existence of the zero lowers the probability of winning with the simple chance, however, to 48.65% in European roulette.

• • Red Or Black : As the name suggests, the color of the winning field is used here, regardless of the number of the field. To do this, place your chips on the red or black diamond located on the edge of the tableau.
  • Even Or Odd : The color is irrelevant in this case, it is all about whether the winning number is even or odd. The corresponding fields are called “even” and “odd” (odd).
